Jury Scam Awareness

As jury scams become more frequent, the Northern District of Mississippi wants you to be aware of common jury scam characteristics which may include:

  • A caller claiming you missed jury service or failed to report to a jury summons.
  • The caller demanding payment to avoid arrest, fines or contempt of court proceedings.
  • The caller directs you to pay a fraudulent fine by prepaid card, mobile payment, wire transfer, cryptocurrency or gift card.
  • The caller uses spoofed phone numbers, official titles or publicly available information to sound credible.
  • The caller pressures you to act immediately and may sound intimidating.

If you receive a phone call with any of these characteristics, you should NOT provide personal or financial information. The Northern District of Mississippi will not demand payment by telephone, text, email or mobile payment application or instruct you to purchase any gift card or transmit funds to avoid arrest or other penalty for jury service.
